OTL has had the privilege of working with distinguished New York City architectural firm Janson Goldstein on several previous projects. So when partner Mark Janson reached out regarding a duplex renovation, we jumped at the chance to collaborate once again. The project presented a significant structural scope combining the third and forth floor apartments into a single duplex with a double height living room. The thoughtfully detailed design and rich materials Janson Goldstein are known for also offered an opportunity to show off the craftsmanship and careful coordination OTL is proud of.
The steel truss staircase was precision fabricated in Austria before being shipped in pieces to NYC and assembled on site by a team of Austrian specialist metal workers.
Steel frame windows and custom skylights flood the apartment with natural light and recall old styles of glazing appropriate to the building's vintage.
This project also included a new deck which opened up livable roof space previously used only for mechanical equipment.
Each bathroom required several slabs of marble which were precisely book matched and joined with mitered corners for a seamless look highlighting the stone's natural veining.
